Briefing the MEC for Human Settlements in the Eastern Cape, Honourable Ms Nonkqubela Pieters MPL, and The Executive Mayor of Ndlambe Municipality Cllr Ms Khululwa Ncamiso, regarding the Germany-South Africa scientific cooperation, technology-transfer, innovationdriven, trans-disciplinary Ndlambe EcoSUN Green Village demonstration project, on November 27, 2019

The briefing session consisted of two parts. It started with a Steering committee meeting that prepared
the session, and was continued by the session itself on November 27, in Kenton-on-Sea.

EcoSUN Steering committee meeting was organized by Prof. Mbanga and took place at NMU
North Campus in Port Elizabeth, on November 26, 2019. SC members of all project partners participated,
and also Prof. Botha, of the School of architecture, and Prof. Allen, honoured the session
with their attendance (see fig. 1).

Prof. Mbanga reported that the University was recently commissioned by DST to partner the project
and will deal with all aspects of greening of villages as given in the following schema (see fig.2).

Included into NMU's activities are a socio-economic survey in Ward 4 of Ekuphumleni as well as
on a broader scale on the national RSA level. This will include training activities for Community
technicians, local economic development, and rolling out activities after the official hand-over of
the EcoSUN village. Partner in the training activities will be the German institution of Vocational
training with whom NMU undersigned a MoU (see report on the visit of Prof Mbanga in Germany)
CSIR explained the corner stones of the time table: The updated version contains such important
dates as the handing over to the service provider, of the construction ground in Ekuphumleni, on
January 20th, as well as negotiations with the service provider on site. The date for the hand over of
the EcoSUN Settlement is now fixed: June 17, 2020.
Briefing session
The briefing session was chaired by MEC Human Settlements, Ms Pieters. It intended to present the
status and the intentions of the EcoSUN project including its national and international character.
